Sample Employee Post-Training Survey Questions

Training surveys cover themes including:

  • Relevance to the employee’s actual role
  • Clarity of the content
  • Quality of the instructor and materials
  • Confidence applying the skills on the job
  • Gaps the training didn’t cover
  • For B2B: how the training shows up in customer-facing work

Most training surveys ask about these themes the wrong way. “How satisfied were you with the training?” produces flat agreement. “How relevant was the training to your role?” invites the polite “very relevant” answer. Questions Interaction Metrics writes instead:

  • In your own words, what’s one thing from the training you plan to use this week?
  • Think about a real situation you’ve handled in your role. Where would what you learned have helped, and where would it have fallen short?
  • What part of the training felt furthest from your day-to-day work?
  • The next time you handle a customer interaction this training covered, what will you do differently?
  • What did the training assume you already knew that you actually didn’t?
  • What topic was missing that would have made the training more useful?
  • If a colleague was about to take this training, what would you tell them to pay closest attention to?
